If you're even slightly into the aftermarket scene you will have undoubtedly heard of Liberty Walk. If you haven't, here's the basics: Liberty Walk is a Japanese tuning company that can be sub-categorised into Liberty Performance and Liberty Works. On the Liberty Performance side the company offers body kits for a host of popular tuner cars as well as exhausts and air suspension kits. The Liberty Works side caters for the higher end of the market producing body kits and accessories for modern supercars. There are a few companies around the world that do the same thing, but Liberty Walk's kits stand out from the rest thanks to the way they've taken inspiration from the Nissan Works race team and the body kits they used on their race cars in the 70s - The lowered over fender look as they call it. Most body kit manufacturers offer products and accessories that flow with the intended car's bodywork and more often than not, the kits are smoothed over so you could easily mistake what you're seeing as OEM.
Liberty Walk's kits are quite the opposite, they wide, brash and in your face. They take the car's original dimensions and blow them almost out of proportion, bordering on being over the top. My favourite part of their kits is the way they show off all the bolts and rivets that hold the kit in place instead of trying to hide them. It gives the car a massive helping of bad-ass-ness. The Liberty Walk stuff isn't to everyone's taste, I'm sure there will be equally as many haters as there will be fans. Of course, I'm part of the latter group - I think this Liberty Walk GT-R is absolutely freaking mental. Pics are one thing, I've seen loads on various websites, but seeing one of these cars up close is just something else. If this thing ever parks off at an event you'll probably battle to get any pics of it, it's guaranteed to have a constant crowd around it.
The crew at RACE! SA were the ones contracted to transform this GT-R into the current spec you see here. The owner is based in Cape Town, and so just like that Novitec Torado Aventador they did a few months back, this Nissan will be shipped off to the Mother City soon. The owner remains anonymous for now, but the rumour going around is that he's a 24-year-old car fanatic who clearly has the means to have the finer things in life. Marco and the RACE! crew not only fitted the Liberty Walk kit to perfection, they went one step further and added air suspension to the mix, so not only is this the only Liberty Walk GT-R in SA, it's also the only GT-R riding on air. I was so impressed with the looks of the car that I forgot to check out what was happening under the hood, there had to have been some choice mods considering the size of that front-mounted cooler. When I was taking the pics, I heard someone mention that the car has one of the 800hp upgrade kits fitted, which makes sense.
Once again the RACE! SA guys have outdone themselves. They're producing world-class builds one all the best supercars on the market and have pretty much cemented themselves as being the go-to company for big money builds. I can't wait to see what these RACE! SA-built cars do to the aftermarket scene, I have a feeling there will be a few more millionaires out there who will also want something special in their collections. There are a few more Liberty Walk GT-Rs being done in the coming month according to Marco, but now that I've seen one, I'm more interested in the other project car he has planned for himself - a Ferrari 458 with the complete Liberty Walk package! My favourite Ferrari with my favourite aftermarket body kit on will definitely be a sight to behold!
