Ark Animal Centre's Bikini Car Wash 2014

10/11/2014

Ark Animal Centre is a brilliant non-profit animal shelter based in Fourways, Gauteng. These guys do amazing work for the paw people, they give animals a voice of their own. If you know anything about me at all, you'll know that animals are one of my passions, so when I heard that Ark was having another bikini car wash, I had to go through and get pics. No, not to see the women in barely any clothes, it was for the animals (no, seriously, well...).

The center is a non-profit organisation which means they rely heavily on the kindness of the public as well as a few awesome companies to help them pay the bills that arise during animal rescue. It's not cheap feeding all the animals they have rescued, and even when vet fees are discounted, those amounts can be pretty scary.

"It's not cheap feeding all the animals they have rescued, and even when vet fees are discounted, the amounts can be pretty scary."
That's the main reason behind events like this, but they also help raise awareness on the centre too. I know for one puppy on the day, the event changed it's life when someone went through all the checks and filled in all the necessary paperwork and gave it a furever home. To get events like this to work properly, it helps having a few awesome people and companies on board, this year the guys from the popular Outer Limits venue in Broadacres offered up their venue for the event and they were supported by Turtle Wax, The Fourways Review, PigSpotter, Seduction Events SA (featuring DJ Nemo Junes), Duck Rabbit Studios, Sven Slabbert and of course the main ingredient being the girls from Pretty Promoters.
I was only at the event for a couple of hours and in that time a fair amount of cars and bikes were cleaned. There were a few cars that were taken through more than once. This could have either been because the guys wanted to raise more money for Ark or they simply wanted another chance to see the ladies lather up their cars. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say it was for the animals. The cars through the queue came from all walks of life, proving that event advertising on social media reaches just about every kind of person. Besides the public, there was support from a few emergency services like ER24 and the guys from Londoloza Protection Group - nice one guys!

As expected, it was a brilliant event and while I don't have the final numbers, the main point is that money was raised for a great organisation by a whole bunhc of great people. Events like this are always a win-win, so next time you see one advertised, go through, support and take your camera along. If you happen to forget your camera, you can always check in here...
